In 2007 New Hope Community Church created “The Gift of Groceries” (TGOG). This ministry runs entirely on donations. Every dollar donated is used to acquire, transport, and distribute food. The Gift of Groceries is run and operated totally by volunteers. Every Thursday we provide recipients with enough quality food to last a family of three for about four to five days. Since 2007, TGOG has distributed over 12 million pounds of groceries to over 790,000 people. The Gift of Groceries is now the largest single day food distribution site in Sacramento County.
We also want to feed spiritual hunger. Volunteers are ready to pray for any specific request a recipient may have.
Being part of “The Emergency Food Access Program” (TEFAP) we distribute USDA provided items in addition to the items that are donated or purchased every week. Every Thursday we provide items such as canned food, dry goods, juice, meats, dairy products and fresh produce.
Visitors are also able to receive free flu, Covid and other vaccines provided by and administered by the Sacramento County Health Department on scheduled weeks each month.
The Gift of Groceries also offers free shoes and clothing through our clothing ministry, “Blessings” which is open every Thursday from 8am to noon during our food distributions.
